If your wedding is in the months of March, April and May then you should start to consider which types of flowers you want for the wedding. While there are a limited amount of seasonal spring flowers many are very beautiful and can be less expensive than out of season flowers. Discuss pricing with your florist to see if you can save by choosing some of the seasonal flowers listed below.
Amaryllis
As a beautiful bulb flower with long think stalks you can incorporate the amaryllis into arrangements for the wedding. These flowers come in a variety of colors including white, red, pink and orange. Since they grow from bulbs they also make a great wedding favor as a single amaryllis bulb in a pretty pot. Whether you use them in your bridesmaid bouquets or flower arrangements, amaryllis flowers will make a beautiful addition to your wedding flowers.
Orchids
If you live in the Hawaiian Islands or plan on having your wedding there you can find orchids for a very reasonable price. On the mainland however orchids are a very expensive flower to use for your wedding. These flowers are delicate and beautiful which is why they cost so much. You can easily make a single orchid plant in a beautiful pot the centerpieces on the tables or have your florist add them to the bouquets. They come in a variety of colors including blue, pink, white, red and orange.
Lilies
Another beautiful spring flower for your wedding arrangements and bouquets is lilies. They come in a variety of colors including white, yellow, orange, red, purple and pink. You can find lilies in a variety of sizes and patterns as well which can make for a great mixture. Since they have nice long straight stalks you can use a bunch of white lilies tied together for your bridal bouquet.
Dahlias
As a wonderful addition to your wedding arrangements or bouquets you can have the florist work in some dahlias. These flowers add volume, beauty and lots of color to the arrangements. You can find dahlias in a variety of colors including blues, purples, reds, pinks, whites and oranges. They can have cylinder petals, flat petals or fluffy looking petals. Ask which varieties are available in your area.
Tulips
As a beautiful bulb flower tulips are a great addition to your spring wedding bouquets and arrangements. They come in a variety of bright gorgeous colors and multi colors like yellow and red stripes. You cannot find true black tulips but the dark purple is considered the closest thing to a black tulip if you want black and white flowers for your wedding arrangements.
Daffodils
With only a few colors and looks, daffodils are a classic springtime flower for your wedding. You can find them in solid yellow, white or yellow with orange centers, or yellow with white centers. Since the colors are simple you can easily make daffodils the color pallet for your wedding. There is nothing more spring than yellow, orange and white for your wedding colors.
Freesia
Freesia flowers are very popular in spring arrangements since they come in a variety of colors and have great stems. They accompany lilies wonderfully for a bridal bouquet or boutonnieres for your fiancé and groomsmen. You can get freesia flowers in many colors including blue, purple, yellow, pink, white, red and orange. Be sure to ask which colors are available through your florist so you can choose the shades you love.
Peonies
As a gorgeous and voluptuous flower you can easily use only peonies for your wedding flowers. They make wonderful arrangements and bouquets all by themselves. Since they are a seasonal flower this will most likely save you a nice amount of money if you only use peonies. They come in a variety of colors including whites, pinks, reds and oranges.
Hyacinth
As a beautiful and fragrant bulb flower you will not be disappointed with hyacinths at your wedding. Whether you have forced bulbs in bowls of marbles or cut hyacinths in your arrangements this flower will add beautiful color to your tables. Do not be afraid to use them as centerpieces and bouquet flowers and they are sure to make your wedding reception smell heavenly.
While I may not have touched on a specific flower you love in spring, these are some of the most popular and accessible flowers. Make sure you check with your florist as to which varieties are available for the best price when you go and discuss arrangements and bouquets. Also if you are doing the flowers yourself then this is good to know so you can choose flowers that will be less expensive when you go to buy them and make your own centerpieces and bouquets.
