Preparing yourself for the wedding is one of the most difficult parts about the whole planning process. You have to get your wardrobe together, make hair and nail appointments on top of planning for the ceremony and reception. The last thing that comes to mind is dance skills but trust me a basic dance is very important. We all want to look great and feel confident on our wedding night!
When you start thinking about the reception and all the activities, dancing is one of the big events. First you have the “first dance” with your new spouse and then the father-daughter dance. Between these two and the rest of the night, you will most likely want to be able to dance at least a little bit.
Since all eyes will be on you, there is little room for mistake without feeling silly. I surely felt all the nerves when the first dance came along and everyone was staring. The solution I found to making sure it was not as scary was learning how to do basic ballroom dance.
The most easy and necessary dance is the waltz. It is a basic three count dance which gets you spinning around so all angles can be seen on the dance floor. Your guests will be delighted and your nerves will be a little lower. Of course there are some butterflies, but knowing the dance by muscle memory will make your wedding reception that much more enjoyable.
To learn the waltz you have a few options; dance school, DVD movies or have a friend teach you. We just so happen to get a gift certificate to a well known dance company for a few group lessons and individual lessons which worked out great. However if you search for “how to dance the waltz” you can find movies right online. This is the more new age way to find everything under the sun.
Once you line up a way to be taught the waltz it is important to discuss leading with your fiancé. This was what I found to be the most difficult. I like to lead and so does my husband so we found ourselves leading one-another. To make the dancing easier, just let your fiancé lead. It makes you feel a little more like a princess at the ball.
All in all your wedding will be a very special night and it is important to make sure and take advantage of the spot light. The waltz is a very basic dance and gives the two of you a basic move to get through the most special dance of the night. He will be able to lead you around the dance floor with ease and you will be able to just float along. No nervousness, just fun! That’s what your wedding reception should be about!
