With the new year upon us and a wedding to plan there is much to do. In order to make sure your guests have the time to arrange for coming to your wedding it is important to send save-the-dates. While some places charge an arm and a leg to do this for you, it is relatively easy to make some yourself. With that in mind here are several ideas for you to make your own save-the-date announcements.
Photo Cards
One of the easiest ways to make inexpensive save-the-date announcements is to design a photo greeting card. Almost all stores that have a photo department will print the photo cards. Some allow you to upload your pictures online and use them to design the card from the comfort of your home. The program in the store and online has the same idea where you choose a template and customize the photo and text boxes.
The photo greeting cards usually can be done in one hour and usually come with an envelope. All you have to do is pick them up, address the envelopes, add your stamps and put them in the mail. These cost around a dollar a piece after they have been sent.
Scrapping
If you love to scrapbook then doing a card scrapping project for your save-the-date announcements is right up your alley. These fun and creative little masterpieces are your own design and can be made many different sizes and colors. You can use the same theme or color scheme as your wedding for the cards and add little embellishments like buttons, flowers and ribbon.
Depending on how much you attempt with these little scrapping projects will determine how much they cost. The more you add, the more expensive they get. Try finding things you have in your crafts at home to add on instead of having to buy all new materials. This will cut down substantially on the cost.
Magnets
Designing your own magnets can be a fun save-the-date project. Whether you make a little design with your names and the date on it or want to use a photo there are a couple of ways to make them. An easy template to use at home would be a label making one. This would allow you to print out a bunch of the same little designs. You also can print off wallet size photos with the date printed across is a bold print.
Then you can cut out the little labels or pictures and have them laminated. This prevents the save-the-date from losing shape and allows you to put a magnet on the back. The best type of magnet to use would be a sheet with a peel off sticky side that does not require hot glue. This way you don’t melt the laminate. Then you can put these in a note card in the envelope with a tiny piece of double sided tape to prevent them from being destroyed in the mail.
Stickers
The sticker idea is a great way for people to put a reminder on their calendar at home on the date of your wedding. Designing your own stickers from home can be pretty easy. There are templates available for download online depending on which type of program you have and the size sticker sheets you buy.
Once you decide on a sticker sheet you can match the template and put a little design on it with your names and the date. Then you can print them on your home printer and cut out the stickers with the backing on it. Use little decorated note cards and a piece of double sided tape to attach the sticker to the middle. This will make the sticker easy to remove and place on their calendar.
Decision Time
Have fun playing around with different ideas before you settle on one. Some require more time and money than others so hopefully you can figure out a save-the-date that fits your budget. If everyone on your list has an e-mail address then a free option would be to create a pretty online document. This option is one of several different ideas that you can create all by yourself. Choose the best option for you and enjoy making your personalized save-the-date announcements.
